It’s been a long week at the penultimate tournament before the US Open starts and many rain interruptions and all players having to play two games yesterday but we finally get to the final at Winston Salem.

The match will begin at 5pm Eastern and it’s going to be either Frenchman Benoit Paire or Polish youngster Hubert Hurkacz who lifts the trophy.

The weather forecast looks good and hopefully, we’ll have no continuation of the awful weather that has ruined a lot of this tournament and we get started on time in some sunshine.

Benoit Paire is a strange player to follow as he can be capable of some terrible but also quite brilliant performances. He isn’t usually at his best on the hard courts and the run this week has been a pleasant surprise for his supporters.

He has beaten Ugo Humbert and Carreno Busta and has certainly had the easier run of games until last night when he had to face off against Steve Johnson to reach the final.

It was one of the most bizarre a tennis fan will ever see, after losing the first set by a 6-1 scoreline he then rattled off twelve consecutive games to bagel his opponent twice as he completely collapsed on the court.

Furthermore, out of the ten points he lost in the final set, half of them were double faults.

Hubert Hurkacz has had one of the finest weeks of his tennis career and comes into this final absolutely flying with confidence and playing at the highest standard that he has in his career.

He has certainly earned his place here with wins over Duck Hee Lee and Feliciano Lopez before his incredible day yesterday, where he defeated two quality opponents in the space of a few hours.

His quarter final-final match was his best performance yet, a come from behind with against Frances Tiafoe when a break and a set down and then he took apart the tournament favorite Denis Shapovalov in straight sets and seemed to be absolutely flying, breaking serve at will whilst holding his own.

The head to head between the players stands at 0-0 as this is the first time they have taken to the court to play against each other.

Both of these guys can serve well and the winner might be the player who can win the most points behind it, for Paire to stand a chance he has to cut down on his double faults.

Our Pick

Hubert Hurkacz to win the match pays out at -166 with Fanduel.

It’s not the most attractive odds to place a bet at here but we are going with the man who just looks a bit more solid and should win this final.

Hubert Hurkacz was quite sensational yesterday in defeating two quality in one day and should have enough to defeat Paire, who got here more on the total collapse of Steve Johnson than on his own brilliance.

Take the Polish player to lift the trophy.
