Tennis Betting

With betting online through computer and mobile now legal in some states, the growth of tennis betting markets from US Sportsbooks has been rapid.

While the four Grand Slams of the year may be the best-known tournaments to bet on, there's almost daily action from the ATP and WTA tours that travel the world resulting in extensive coverage throughout the year.

There are many ways to bet on Tennis, you'll find a vast selection of markets at the sportsbooks. Here are just some of the most popular methods of how you can bet on Tennis.

The classic Tennis bet and massively popular with tennis bettors all over the world where is it often referred to as Match Betting.

Quite simply, you are betting on the result of one match.

For example. If Novak Djokovic is -120 on the moneyline against Roger Federer, that means you'd have to wager $120 to win $100 on a Djokovic victory. If Federer is +110 in the same match, you will win $110 on a $100 wager.

Tournament Winner

Bet on the overall winner of a tournament.

You will find superior odds for tournament winner available in advance of the opening matches. This is especially true for the Grand Slams where the outright tournament odds will be available for the following year's winner almost as soon as the final ball has been stuck in the men's singles.

It's a great way to increase the odds on a player because once the tournament gets underway and fewer players are remaining the odds on you pick will shorten and pay less.

Set Betting

If you have a hunch on how things will play out during a match, then set betting is the market to look at.

Here you are betting on the winner of a tennis match AND what the final result in sets will be. This bet is often used by tennis fans to win big from a small wager.

So if you have an eye on a player that you think will win easily you could bet your pick to win a 3-0 straight-sets victory. There's more value to be had in a player closely matched with their opponent, but the risk is higher.

The aim of the spread is for the sportsbook to level the playing field and have each player in a match will have a roughly equal chance.

In Tennis, it is usual to find betting markets for the Game Spread and the Set Spread.

For example, say Rafael Nadal is playing in the first round of the French Open. He's a prohibitive favorite at -5000 (place $5,000 to win $100!).

Instead of risking your money on that, it's better to take the game handicap. In this case, it's -9.5 games. At the end of the match you add up each player's games won, then subtract the handicap.

So if Nadal were to win 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 - the total games won is 18-7. That's over the 9.5 game spread and therefore a winner. In these handicap markets you'll get odds of -110, so pretty much double your money!

An Over/Under bet allows you to wager on the total number of games played in a match but with a twist!

The bet does not require you to predict the exact number of games played. Instead, the sportsbook will specify the number of games, and you have to bet whether the actual number of games played will be over or under that amount.

For example, the Over/Under may be set at 22.5 games. If you think the match will be close and bet the over, you need the game to last for at least 23 games to win your bet.

If the game only goes 22 games, you lose!

Live Betting

Live Tennis Betting

Let's add in some sweat and adrenaline with live betting.

Be prepared and ready for everything that a match has to throw at you as you bet while the game is being played!

The odds can change fast as the game plays out, so it's exciting as well as challenging. It's a little non-secret that live betting is not for the faint-hearted and best left to the more experienced tennis bettor.
