The ATP Cincinnati Masters reaches its conclusion tonight and we have two players in the final that very few fans would have selected at the start of the week to get here, it’s the Russian Daniil Medvedev facing off against Belgian player David Goffin, the match gets underway at 4pm Eastern time.

Daniil Medvedev has been absolutely sensational this week and comes into this as the heavy favourite to take his first major title on the ATP tour. Many pundits have long tipped him for big things and it appears he is finally reaching the potential he was said to have under the coaching of Gilles Cervera.

He has beaten Kyle Edmund, Beniot Paire, Jan Lennard Struff and Andrey Rublev before pulling off the shock of the tournament last night when he saw off Novak Djokovic by a 2-1 scoreline after going a set down.

Match Winner

The set he conceded against Novak was the first this tournament which shows the level of performance he is achieving at this point in time.

His baseline play was absolutely sensational at times and even someone of the quality of the Serb couldn’t live with the return of serve, combined with his backline down the line it made a deadly and irresistible combination.

For David Goffin this also comes as a surprise as he has shown no form so far this season to suggest he would be competing in finals on the hard courts of America.

He has been consistent though and has taken advantage of a very good draw to get where he is today, he has beaten Nishioka, Mannarino and Pella in a side where many of the higher seeds have already fell.

Richard Gasquet was his last four opponent and the Frenchman didn’t really show up, it gave Goffin a very comfortable straight sets victory where he had to do very little to win points and a break in either set was more than enough to see him into the final with a comfortable performance.

Set Betting

The H2H between the players is split down the middle at one match apiece but on closer reading for this match it looks like good news for fans of the Russian, both previous matches were held this year but Goffin’s win was a close fought encounter on grass at Wimbledon.

The only previous meeting the pair have had on the hard courts was at the Australian Open back in January and Medvedev came through easily in a 3-0 score line.

Our Pick

Daniil Medvedev to win the match 2-0 pays out at +110 with Fanduel.

From the start of the week the Russian player has been a man possessed and it’s hard not to envisage him as the player who will holding the trophy aloft tonight. David Goffin has played well to get here but he isn’t doing anything better than Medvedev is at the moment and he might even struggle to compete in this contest.

The Russian has never lost a set to Goffin on this surface and that can continue this evening.
