The China Open in Beijing is underway and we have a packed field of talent as players take in the biggest tennis tournament in the most populated country in the World, we have some second-round matches on Wednesday and our preview for the day’s action will be the contest between John Isner and Daniel Evans.

Moneyline

These two players have already met earlier this year when they collided at Delray Beach in the semi-final match, it was the British player who won that one against a tired opponent, winning a deciding set.

American John Isner is playing some excellent tennis at the minute and aside from the odd lapse, it is taking a top-class player to get rid of him from these big tournaments.

Recent form is mixed, he played the Laver Cup and defeated Alexander Zverev but lost in Chengdu to Egor Gerasimov, that has given him some crucial rest though for here, before that he had lost to Marin Cilic at the US Open but did win a couple of matches before that.

He got off to the perfect start here on Tuesday when defeating Gael Monfils in a grueling match on the center court, he lost the second set on a tiebreaker but didn’t need one in the last as he managed to break serve early and then comfortably hold out to ease into the next round.

First Set Winner

Daniel Evans is finally getting back to something like his best on the tour and that will be a relief to those who follow him.

He has had much-publicized problems with injury over the last few years and also served a drug ban after testing positive for cocaine, he’s now trying to get his career back on track and he does possess some serious talent when on form.

He’s played a few tournaments recently with mixed results, he was annihilated by Roger Federer at the US Open but did bounce back from that to qualify here coming through two tricky matches, in the opening round he defeated Chinese wildcard entry Zheng Li, this match will be a lot tougher than that one was.

The Head to Head is 1-0 to Evans as the meeting they had at Delray Beach was the first time they had met in their careers.

What impressed most about Isner in the last match was his return rather than his serve and he managed to break Monfils on two separate occasions, dominating his second serve, if he can return as well as that here it’s going to be very hard to see how Daniel Evans can win the match.

Our Pick

John Isner to win the match out at -174 with Fanduel

This is a short price and not odds we usually tip on but John Isner is playing some pretty wonderful tennis at the minute and Evans is struggling for top form.

The H2H meeting is in favor of the British player but the American was very tired in that match after a tough tournament and he should be able to reverse the form here.

Those wanting a bigger payout can back him to win in straight sets.
