Saturday at the US Open is always one of the most boisterous days of the whole tournament and there will be a raucous crowd behind the American players who are on the court.

Match Winner

One of the most popular is John Isner and he faces off in a huge match against Marin Cilic, the day’s action starts at about midday eastern time.

Isner is a huge server’s dream to watch and on these quicker courts he is in a better position than many a year to have a real crack at a good run at Flushing Meadows.

He always raises his game here and was superb in 2018 when he managed to reach the last eight, a repeat of that this time out would be fantastic and if he can win this could have a decent run where he stands a chance of winning matches early next week.

The American hasn’t dropped a set yet in defeating Jan Lennard Struff and Gullermo Garcia Lopez and even more impressively has been able to show he can break serve on numerous occasions.

He hasn’t quite reached his best form in the run-up to this, but as so often in tennis, the big event can bring out the best in players.

Marin Cilic

Marin Cilic is an ex winner of this tournament and whilst no one expects him to compete here for the title he is a player who should always have the talent to make the second week.

He came through a comfortable opener in straight sets against Martin Klizan but under the lights on the show court last night he struggled for a lot of the match against qualifier Cedric Stebe, needing four sets to see off the German player.

It probably shouldn’t be too much of a surprise as he has struggled in the run-up to this, suffering an embarrassing open round loss to Radu Albot in Cincinnati, and only making the last sixteen in Canada before that.

Set Betting

Game Handicap

The Head to Head reading makes good reading for Cilic as it shows a 9-3 record in his favor but it should be stated though that the American has won his three in the last five meetings between the players.

This will surely be a match decided by serve and it would be a surprise if we didn’t see at least a couple of tie breaks, the key for Isner will be to hold his serve and get to them, Cilic is the better player from the back of the court but is also probably more prone to a mental breakdown that could see him lose his serve. This is a really intriguing match not to be missed.

Our Pick

John Isner to win the match out at +106 with Fanduel

This should be a very close match and we are prepared to give Isner the call at the odds available.

Both men will see few breakpoints but the American player has started to get on top of his Croatian opponent over the last few matches having won three of the last five. Take him to win and advance to the second week of the tournament.
