The US Open is reaching its climax this weekend and we are down to the final four players battling it out to lift the trophy.

We have another surprise in the second of our semi-final matches as the 24th seed Matteo Berrettini take on Spanish legend Rafael Nadal, the match will start at about 7pm Eastern on Friday evening.

The winner of this match will face Grigor Dimitrov or Daniil Medvedev in the final and neither will get a better chance to win a major slam that this with all the big names having departed.

The young Italian Matteo Berrettini keeps getting better and better in this tournament and this doesn’t look like a one-off, he wasn’t one of the younger players talked about by pundits but he’s shown more in these two weeks than most others.

He’s come of age with a terrific baseline game and has also shown nerves of steel when he has been asked to produce at crucial times.

He has beaten some quality players to get here including Andrey Rublev and Jordan Thompson and he was tremendous again in his Quarter Final match taking on his toughest test in Gael Monfils and coming through a long, enduring matchup.

BerrettiniAfter looking nervy in the opening set he bounced back to win the next two before being dragged to a decider, that was a back and forth affair that ended in a tie break and the Italian was the player who held his nerve to win that.

He does have one ATP title to his name when he defeated Roberto Bautista-Agut in Gstaad so he isn’t completely inexperienced when it comes to the latter end of tournaments, this is certainly though his biggest ever test.

For the Spaniard it’s been a perfect couple of weeks for him, he has comfortably came through all his matches and whilst doing so seen his two main rivals both lose whilst struggling with injuries.

Set Betting

He came through a tricky last eight match when defeating the battling Argentine Diego Schwartzman in straight sets after coming through a hard-fought opener.

Victory here will see him move just one behind Roger Federer and he’ll surely be looking at overtaking the Swiss legend next year with the French Open on his radar and the extra time he has over his rival given his age.

This is the first meeting between the two players and it’s hard to know what to expect, it should be a match that will be played from the baseline almost exclusively and that should play into the hands of the Spanish player who will seek to dominate, Berrettini will have to play the game of his life if he is to advance to the final.

Our Pick

Rafael Nadal to win the match 3-0 pays out at -140 with Fanduel

As brilliant as the Italian player has been here it’s impossible to see him managing to overhaul Rafael Nadal in his first Grand Slam semi-final.

The Spanish player should dominate from the back of court and tiredness will now surely be an issue for Matteo Berrettini after his gruelling match against Gael Monfils.

Take Nadal to win and to do so in straight sets.
