It has been a down couple of years for the Pac-12. The conference has been shut out of the College Football Playoffs for the past two seasons.

Is this the year a team from out west crashes the party once again? Which program has the best chance of making that happen? Read on and find out.

Favorites to Win the Pac-12

Utah Utes

The Utes enter the season as co-favorites to win the conference. Utah will be returning a wealth of talent to a squad which made it to the Pac-12 title game last year before falling to Washington in a defensive slugfest.

This club can bring it on both sides of the ball. They should at least be in the mix for another South division crown.

Washington Huskies

The defending Pac-12 champs are one of the favorites to do it again. The Huskies are expected to win the North division, but there are a trio of programs nipping at their heels. Talented Georgia transfer Jacob Eason slides behind center for an offense that isn’t expected to miss a beat.

The big concern is attrition on defense, but this team still looks like a contender.

Oregon Ducks

Signal caller Justin Herbert is in the Heisman Trophy conversation, but the Ducks bring more to the table than just another quality offensive threat.

This is a club that returns lots of talent on the offensive line. Oregon also has a new defensive coordinator on board in hopes of bolstering that side of the ball.

We’ll learn a lot about this team right off the bat as they have a showdown with Auburn in Week 1.

USC Trojans

A 5-7 regular season won’t win you many fans at USC, and head coach Clay Helton’s seat became awfully toasty at the end of 2018 as a result.

He’ll be back for another swing at things, and the Trojans are looking like a program that should improve. The new offensive coordinator has an Air Raid background, so footballs could be flying over Southern California this fall.

Stanford Cardinal

The run game went south at Stanford last season, but the team was still able to pull out an 8-4 regular season. That was followed by a one-point win over Pittsburgh in the Sun Bowl.

This is another squad that has a good chance to improve in 2019, but a tough early schedule doesn’t bolster confidence for the team improving on last year’s mark.

Washington State Cougars

The Cougars continue to be a factor in the North division, but the team just can’t get over the hump that is Washington. The losing streak now stands at six games to the Huskies.

They’ll be meeting again in the final game of the regular season. There’s talent on both sides of the ball here, but it’s unclear if that’ll be enough to push the team over the top.

The Rest of the Pac-12

The remainder of the conference is a mix of programs which should be interesting in 2019, as well as three which look like they could have long seasons. Arizona, Arizona State, and UCLA all check in with odds of +2500 to win the Pac-12.

There’s intrigue to be found for each of them, including how Chip Kelly fares in his second year on the sidelines for the Bruins. California is currently at +5000, while Colorado and Oregon State bring up the rear at +12500 and +25000 respectively.

Bottom Line on the Pac-12 in 2019

The odds board is pretty clear cut here, and we’ll concur that Utah, Washington, and Oregon are looking like the class of the conference.

We like Washington to take it down when all is said and done, as signs point to Eason being a great fit for the offense.
