Every year there are a few teams that come seemingly from nowhere to make a playoff run. Just last year there were seven teams in the playoffs that missed the previous year.

Below are our dark horse picks to potentially outperform their expected total wins and maybe even go deep into the playoffs.

San Fransisco 49ers

Jimmy Garoppolo 49ers QB

The 49ers will get QB Jimmy Garoppolo back after he suffered a torn ACL in week 3 last season.

Coach Kyle Shanahan looks like a star in the making, as everywhere he's gone the team has improved, and then gone downhill after he left.

They have key additions in defense, notably number two overall draft pick Nick Bosa. They have a good TE in George Kittle, and are really set for a playoff push this year.

49ers to Make the Playoffs

Our 49ers Picks

There's certainly some value in them to make the playoffs, so take YES at +210 with FANDUEL.

Also to have a winning season looks a distinct possibility. We'll have some OVER 8 WINS at -110 with FANDUEL.

Green Bay Packers

Our second dark horse is Green Bay, who will be putting a lot of hope on new coach Matt LeFleur being able to work with QB Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers with Matt LeFleur in training camp

LeFleur is known somewhat as an offensive guru, so the hope is that he can bring out the best in Rodgers. The Pack isn't short of talent on offense, with Davante Adams set for a huge season, and super talented tight-end Jimmy Graham looking to step up on last year's slightly disappointing season.

One area they really have strengthened though is on defense. Additions of Adrian Amos, Preston Smith, and Za'Darius Smith represent a great upgrade.

If everything goes their way, including the relationship of head coach and quarterback, it's very possible the Packers will make a run all the way this year.

Packers regular season wins

NFC North Winner

Our Packers Pick

It's the tightest betting division in football, with defending champion Bears favorite to go back-to-back. We like the Packers to have a great year though and WIN THE NFC EAST at +185 with FANDUEL.

Tennessee Titans

Titans at Browns Week 1

Sell, Sell, Sell

Just as every year in the NFL some teams come from out of the playoffs to make it deep into the post-season, there are teams who fall away. Take Jacksonville and Minnesota in recent seasons, who both went from Championship games to missing the playoffs.

Here are the teams we think will fall away and are worth taking on unders for season totals.

New Orleans Saints

They were one play from making the Superbowl. They won't stop talking about it. And that's half the problem.

A team with a grudge like the Saints have is a team that's not focusing on the goal. They need to concentrate on this season, not the past, and on all evidence, since January that's not what they are doing. It can become contagious, and an us-against-the-world motto isn't going to work.

Drew Brees

Add to that the big loss of Max Unger at center, and leaving for Baltimore, and we could have a crisis.

Drew Brees has always been the player to rely on, but even he started to look old at the end of last season. He is 40 now and surely can't go on much longer at hall of fame pace. He has to hit the wall soon - not everyone is Tom Brady.

Other factors in our sell of the Saints are that division rivals Carolina and Atlanta surely can't go as badly as last year. Atlanta, in particular, look set for a stellar year, which would put big pressure on the Saints.

Saints to make playoffs

Our Saints Pick

Plenty of factors at play here, not least the aging of Drew Brees. The loss of Unger at center is bigger than most are making out.

Take the Saints to miss the playoffs this year at +245 with FanDuel.
