The first Quarter Final of the US Open will start at around 2pm Eastern on Tuesday and we have two players here who very few expected to be competing for a place in the last four.

Stan Wawrinka has blown the draw wide open after knocking out the tournament favorite and he’ll now take on the Russian player Daniil Medvedev for a place in the last four later in the week.

Stan Wawrinka has been here before and as he comes to the end of his career he would love another US Open title to finish it off and add to his 2016 victory, this year is certainly his best chance to do so.

He provided the shock of the whole tournament last time out when knocking out most pundits predicted winner in Novak Djokovic, the Serbian player was troubled by his shoulder injury but that doesn’t take anything away from the performance of the Swiss player. He was magnificent throughout and was well on his way to victory when the match stopped.

Before that he has seen off Paulo Lorenzi and Jeremy Chardy, he only dropped one set to the pair but he did struggle a little, needing the tiebreaker on two occasions against the Italian player.

Daniil MedvedevDaniil Medvedev has been enjoying himself this week and comes here full of confidence, playing the best tennis he has in this country.

He’s caused a bit of controversy with some strange post-match interviews where he has appeared to be goading the crowd, suggesting that the booing he has received is spurring him on and he can be sure the fans here will be fully behind his opponent.

He arrives here having beaten some good players and fairly comfortably.

He only dropped a set in the opening two rounds and came through against Feliciano Lopez in round three in four sets, his performance over the weekend was his best so far when he knocked out Dominik Koepfer in four, he is carrying a slight injury but it hasn’t affected him at all so far.

Set Betting

Total Games

The head to head matchup is 1-0 and the Russian leads that, he defeated Wawrinka at Wimbledon last year in four sets and in what was a very comfortable victory in the end.

This is a match that will be played mainly from the back of the court, both of them like to be at the baseline and both possess huge groundstrokes, this could be a real lengthy battle of attrition and both players will likely be extremely tired by the end of it.

Our Pick

Daniil Medvedev to win the match 3-0 pays out at +112 with Fanduel.

A close call but we are going go with the bigger odds in what looks like a coin toss of a matchup here.

Medvedev is playing some wonderful tennis and his opponent, whilst brilliant against Djokovic, often drops a level after a big victory.

It should be tight and will probably go the distance but we’ll take the Russian player to advance to the last four.
