There have only been two teams in the history of the NFL that have managed to make it through the regular season undefeated—the ’72 Miami Dolphins and the ’07 New England Patriots.

Every year, fans hope that their team will become the next to accomplish the feat.

However, in the end, everyone ends up losing at least one. Some have gotten close; the Carolina Panthers made it to Week 16 back during the 2015 season before losing a game. But no has been able to pull it off giving rise to an intriguing wager (odds via DraftKings):

Who Is Going To Be The Last Undefeated Team

o New England Patriots    +750

o Kansas City Chiefs           +900

o LA Chargers, LA Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks +1100

o Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints         +1200

o Cleveland Browns           +1600

o Minnesota Vikings          +1800

o Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens +2000

o Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers  +2500

o Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers +4000

o Atlanta Falcons +4500

o Buffalo Bills        +5000

o New York Giants, Oakland Raiders           +6000

o Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans               +7000

o Washington Redskins    +10000

o Cincinnati Bengals          +12500

The Patriots are understandably the first team that comes to winning games, but there track record, in this case, is not very good. Dating back to 2010, they have lost at least one game in September every season but one, 2015. That year they won their first ten.

They start the season with a tough one, but then their schedule eases up for six weeks before they have the Browns, Ravens, Eagles, and Cowboys.

It is unlikely the Rams will do it with the schedule they have to start the season. Four of their first five games are going to be pretty tough (Panthers, Saints, Browns, and Seahawks). The Seahawks are in a similar situation with six of their first eight games being against potentially tough competition.

Philadelphia has a shot at making a decent run to start the season. Five of their first eight games are ones they absolutely should win, and the other three (Vikings, Packers, and Cowboys) are certainly winnable games. But if they make it that far, they see the Chicago Bears in Week Nine and the Patriots in Week Ten

The Chargers could possibly make a run. Their first five games are against teams they should absolutely beat. Then they have the Steelers, followed by the Titans, Bears, Packers, and Raiders. They could easily enter the game against the Steelers 5-0. Win that, and they should be 7-0 (following a win over the Titans) when they see the Bears in Week Eight followed by the Packers and Raiders.

The Chargers could easily be 10-0 when they see the Chiefs on November 18. They will have a few tough games in that stretch (Steelers, Bears, Packers), but they can win those games.

Chicago has a tough slate to start the season as do the Saints. Dallas starts the season with three games they should win but then face the Saints, Packers, Jets, and Eagles.

The most likely candidate to be the last undefeated team in the NFL is the Kansas City Chiefs. Jacksonville could be a challenge in Week One, but get past them, and it is smooth sailing until they see the Packers in Week Eight followed by the Vikings (both winnable games).

Tennessee shouldn’t be too much trouble for them, but the Chargers could be a real challenge in Week 11. Following the bye, they face the Raiders again before seeing the Patriots in Week 14 when they could very well be 12-0.

Take the Chiefs at +900 to be the last undefeated team standing, but if you feel like taking a chance, consider the Browns as well at +1600.
